Independent developer CornflowerBlue has fully revealed Lightspeed Lina and launched a Kickstarter to fund its development, seeking $45,000.
The game centers on Lina "Lightspeed" Lockett, a former thief turned treasure hunter. After a spaceship crashes, heart-shaped gems called Comets begin to rain down across the archipelago known to locals as Ephemera. Lina sets out to collect the Comets for profit, but her journey soon brings her into contact with a pink alien and her former mentor.
Gameplay combines fast-paced 3D platforming with action-adventure elements. Lina wears special boots that let her sprint across islands, engage enemies, and navigate the environment at high speed. Players can discover alien Spur Arts technology to gain new abilities that both improve combat and open up additional exploration routes.
The game's world is made up of nonlinear islands—some large, some small—with towns populated by NPCs, hidden treasures, and bosses. Level design includes loops, ramps and steep descents intended for high-speed dashing. The developer promises responsive controls and a blend of rapid movement, combat and exploration.
Cosmetic options are planned, allowing players to dress Lina in outfits such as dresses, business suits, masquerade costumes and mascot suits. CornflowerBlue recommends using a controller, though mouse-and-keyboard support is available.
Treasure hunting in Lightspeed Lina will be released on PC via Steam. To date, only English localization has been announced.
