A tiny sprite of a rusting truck, originally drawn in 1997 for an isometric map, has reappeared nearly three decades later as a fully realized 3D decorative model in the 26th season rewards of Fallout 76 — the season titled "Beware the Blood Moon."
The truck reward, available on the first bonus page of the seasonal scoreboard, immediately drew comparisons to vehicles from the series’ early days. One player pointed out that it matches the transport seen in the original Fallout and Fallout Tactics: the same bed mounting, the same front, the same overall silhouette.
What makes the reveal notable is how the old sprite was interpreted. The pickup has been reshaped with softer curves and an Art Deco influence that aligns with Fallout 76's broader aesthetic, transforming the tinny Interplay-era design into something that looks like an angry, squinting face. Observers also noted the windshield’s likeness to the visor of the T-51 Power Armor helmet — a comparison that, once noticed, is hard to ignore.
Reworking legacy assets is not new for Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic universe. Fallout 76 has previously included recognizable items from Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, and even the plasma caster in the game traces back to Fallout 2, albeit in a reworked form. Some players have speculated that these overlaps could indicate work related to classic remasters, but Bethesda has not made any announcement to that effect.
Many players typically gripe about seasonal rewards being largely recolors of existing items; in that context, the arrival of a genuinely new model has been welcomed as something of a treat.
