Masters of horror from the Polish Bloober Team have paired up with Paramount Games for a somewhat surprising turn — the action title Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, due in 2027 and aimed at PC, PS5, XSX/S and Nintendo Switch 2 owners. Russian text is available on Steam.
We are genuinely excited about this journey and hope to honor the legacy of Star Trek in a way that is both respectful and refreshingly unusual. Piotr Babieno, head of Bloober Team
Expect a mature, story-first 3rd-person experience centered on former Lt. Ro Laren — think more introspective than run-and-gun. The hook: Ro (yes, Michelle Forbes returns) is trying to save an old friend and ends up stranded on a planet that behaves like a thinking thing. Memories warp, landscapes turn hostile, reality starts to fray; sometimes the environment itself feels like an antagonist. It’s survival with psychological pressure, not just combat; e.g., the game leans on mood, investigation and slow revelations rather than constant action.
“Explore. Investigate. Survive.”: In Laren’s kit are recognizable Starfleet tools — a tricorder for scans/analysis and a phaser that doubles as puzzle-solver and weapon — so gameplay mixes tech-led problem solving with tense encounters.
