Battlestate Games has achieved the shutdown of SP Tarkov - one of the most popular fan projects will disappear in August

The fan project SP Tarkov (Single Player Tarkov) said it will shut down after receiving legal demands from Battlestate Games. The devs set a hard cutoff of Aug. 12 for the closure, and the current team will stop offering support. Battlestate’s complaint centers on the use of the Tarkov name and elements of its trademarked design; in short, the rights holder asked that brand mentions be removed and the project’s domain changed, arguing the existing labels tied the mod too closely to Escape from Tarkov.

DrakiaXYZ, one of SP Tarkov’s lead devs, confirmed the team got a trademark-infringement notice and — following discussions — opted to take the project’s infrastructure offline. The domain sp-tarkov.com, update distribution servers and related services will be disabled; the source code repo, however, will stay public so others can pick things up if they choose.

SP Tarkov began in 2019–2020 and grew into a widely used alternative to the online Escape from Tarkov. Players turned to it when they wanted to play solo, to experiment with mods, or to tweak many gameplay details without needing to join official servers.

Reaction in the community has been mixed. Some said a simple rename (e.g., dropping “Tarkov” from the title) might have let development continue; others sided with Battlestate, noting the project still relied on assets and approaches tied to another studio’s IP.

For now the project in its current form is ending, but because the code remains open, other teams may try to revive or rebrand the work — whether that happens, and how it’ll be handled, remains to be seen.
