Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will receive a "new look" at Gamescom Opening Night Live

Gamescom Opening Night Live keeps adding names to its stacked show, and among them Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Revelation gets "a new look." Director Naoki Hamaguchi is set to appear at the event.

Rather than a slow build, this finale apparently throws open its world quickly: the Highwind lets players hop almost anywhere, including tougher zones that used to feel off-limits. Two characters join the roster — Vincent Valentine and Sid Highwind — and the FITS system shows up (i.e., a take on the old job mechanics).

On the gear side, each character can equip four items. Hamaguchi cautioned that free-form mixing won’t be allowed, though customization still goes fairly deep. Materia and weapon-mastery paths interact with synergistic abilities; the net result looks aimed at giving combat a layered, tactical feel.

Release window: spring 2027 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Gamescom Opening Night Live will stream on August 25 — should be revealing, depending on how much Hamaguchi decides to unpack.
