The Metroidvania Blighted by the creators of Guacamelee! has been moved to 2027
Drinkbox Studios, the team behind the Guacamelee! duology, has delayed its upcoming Metroidvania Blighted. Originally slated for fall 2026, the studio now expects the game to launch in 2027, the company revealed in a developer diary.
The change of schedule was explained by Josh Davis in that diary, who said the project needs extra time for polish.
The team is working tirelessly (and hiring!), but we believe we need a bit more time to refine and fine-tune the game before launch. With this in mind, we have decided to push the release to 2027. We appreciate your patience and will share news in the coming year, but before the end of 2026, you can also expect another very cool development announcement that we think you will find interesting.
Josh Davis, assistant producer at Drinkbox Studios
Blighted places players in a dying world after the monster Sorcisto consumes their village and spreads a lethal phenomenon known as the Blight across the land. As the sole survivor, you explore surreal locales, confront terrifying bosses, and collect the memories of your people.
Drinkbox describes the combat as deliberately deep, rewarding thoughtful play: you will weave combos, time attacks precisely, and perform powerful finishers. The Blight also serves as a dynamic difficulty mechanic that alters the environment, enemy behavior, and the protagonist's abilities.
Additional features include two-player local and online co-op, and a soundtrack by Jim Guthrie, known for his work on Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Below, and Nobody Saves the World.
Blighted is planned for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch 2, and will include Russian subtitles.
