Japanese modder launched dlss 5 together with enb in fallout 4 the game started looking like a photograph

A Japanese modder using the handle ピピ (pipi_rossa) succeeded in combining NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 with an ENB graphical overhaul in Fallout 4, producing images that many viewers described as photorealistic. Previously, the two technologies were mutually exclusive because both modify frame post-processing, but the creator says the fix was straightforward: “it’s enough to select the DLAA mode in the Upscaling mod.” According to him, “DLAA works as anti-aliasing without scaling,” so the frame is rendered at native resolution while the neural network’s role is limited to removing jagged edges — a setup that lets ENB and DLSS 5 operate on the same frame.

Early trials were unstable. The player reports that the image flickered until he installed the latest RenoDX build distributed via the project’s Discord. RenoDX works by intercepting graphics API calls and adding HDR processing to games that lack native support for it. The visual improvements come at a cost: the combination significantly taxes hardware, and the modder said he is unsure whether it should be left enabled permanently. He also pointed out that DLAA is inherently more demanding than conventional DLSS because it does not provide the performance benefit of rendering at a lower internal resolution.

Some viewers doubted claims of 120 frames per second at these settings. In response, ピピ uploaded a gameplay video, though a frame counter did not appear in the recording. He maintains the framerate stayed at 120 FPS, crediting a custom build of the Upscaling mod created for him by the community. The posted frames include Preston Garvey and Sturges in Sanctuary Hills — characters the modder says look extremely realistic even without separate face texture replacement mods — as well as shots of an abandoned gas station near Sanctuary, the ruined streets of Boston, and a Deathclaw attacking raiders in Concord.

Reactions were mixed. One commenter said the images “look like it was generated by a neural network,” noting that in a sense they are. Another viewer claimed DLSS 5 alone replaces ENB for his setup and that a weather mod is sufficient to adjust contrast and fix most lighting issues.
