Wardogs, the new online shooter from Bulkhead, recorded a remarkably strong opening in early access: on its launch day the game sold more than one million copies, and SteamDB reports the peak concurrent player count on Steam topped 300,000. The sudden influx of users led to server queues for some players.

Bulkhead’s head Joe Brammer described the outcome as "incredible," adding that the studio had intentionally avoided building up high expectations ahead of release. The development team stresses that Wardogs remains in early access, and that fixes, improvements and new content updates are still to come.

At present Wardogs is available only on PC, a factor the studio says makes the initial sales and player figures especially notable. Console editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled for 2028, although no specific release dates have been announced.

Developers have cautioned that the player base may contract after the initial surge, explaining they do not plan to push out new content at a rapid pace. Wardogs is positioned between hardcore military simulators such as Arma and more accessible, large-scale shooters in the vein of Battlefield; early performance suggests that this middle-ground approach has attracted significant interest.

By these measures, the project has already become one of the year’s more prominent multiplayer releases.
