Hello Games isn't rushing to hand out new info on Light No Fire — even though a marketing plan has apparently been sitting ready for a long time. According to the words of founder Sean Murray, the proj became so “ambitious and crazy” that the devs chose to keep heads down and build rather than parade features.
Light No Fire first showed up at The Game Awards 2023. It’s Hello Games’ next big thing after No Man’s Sky — a fantasy planet roughly Earth-sized, or at least that’s the pitch. Expect survival, exploration, base-building and player interaction all blended into a single open world. PC is confirmed; other platforms are TBA.
Murray originally wanted a different path. After a 90‑second teaser, the plan was a slow rollout of features and a full gameplay reveal about six months later — Summer Game Fest 2024 was on the shortlist. Then the community reaction on Steam changed the math: the game rocketed up the most-anticipated list and at one point sat in second for wishlist adds. Murray’s reaction? “I just thought, ‘Okay, enough. We don’t need to say anything else. Why bother with marketing at all?’” So the demo schedule got pushed back.
Still — and this matters — the team says they could show more; they’re ready. Murray claims he plays Light No Fire almost daily, and bits of the proj have already trickled into No Man’s Sky updates. Small experiments, test-runs. Devs learning as they go.
There’s a noticeable preference to work without outside noise. Murray admits he likes being in his “little cave”, plugging away without the prying eyes of hype cycles. It comes through as relief, not arrogance. He wants the craft to breathe.
No release date yet. Platform list beyond PC remains unspecified. From trailers and snippets: vast fantasy landscapes, flying beasts, diverse civilizations, and multiplayer hooks — but how sprawling the final vision will be is something Hello Games is keeping close for now.
