The Viking Sagas Expansion with Three New Factions and a Campaign about Kievan Rus Released for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
The team behind Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has launched a new add-on titled "The Viking Sagas." The expansion introduces three playable civilizations, updated Scandinavian architecture, and a 15-scenario single-player campaign structured in three parts that follows the life of Harald Hardrada.
The expansion expands the game's tactical options with civ-specific units, techs, and aesthetics tied to each new faction:
- The Danes use fast drakkars for raids and plundering enemy territories;
- The Saxons build powerful fortified towns and unite England in the face of relentless Scandinavian invasions;
- The Varangians move freely along European waterways, attack enemies mounted, and serve as mercenaries for wealthy empires.
Beyond new units and technologies, the pack refreshes the visual language of the Scandinavian nations to match the new content.
Central to "The Viking Sagas" is an epic campaign in three parts spanning 15 scenarios that trace Harald Hardrada’s career. Players will fight across the snowy battlefields of Scandinavia, campaign into Kievan Rus, serve as elite Varangian warriors inside Constantinople’s walls, and take part in the climactic Viking invasion of England—allowing the story to be experienced across multiple regions and roles.
Developers say the expansion aims to provide fresh adventures while broadening the historical scope available in the series.
"The Viking Sagas" are available now for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on PC and consoles.
