The authoritative British publication EDGE has released another round of its famously strict game reviews in issue number 427. Early verdicts leaked quickly via users on the ResetEra forum. What sparked the most debate was the magazine’s sharply divided response to two of the biggest names this season — the cooperative adventure Big Walk and the runaway Palworld.
Unexpectedly, Big Walk came out on top, taking an impressive 9 out of 10. The editorial crew (i.e., the folks who rarely hand out top marks) praised its player-interaction systems and the atmosphere of exploration that hangs over the game.
By contrast, the viral phenomenon Palworld was given a harsh score: 5 out of 10. Despite its massive attention, reviewers flagged what they saw as derivative mechanics and a weak visual identity, and the write-up reads more critical than celebratory.
Three titles earned a solid 8 points: the reissue Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and the newer entries Splatoon Raiders and Denshattack. EDGE singled these out as especially well-polished within their respective fields.
The RPG Veritas Tales landed at 7 points, just shy of that upper tier but still considered respectable.
A cluster of games sat on the pass/fail line with 6 points: The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, D-topia, Culdcept Begins, and Helix: Descent N' Ascent. In short, reviewers felt these four didn’t quite seize the EDGE team’s attention.
