The creator of Path of Exile hopes that Diablo 5 will return the series to its roots.
One of the creators of Path of Exile, Chris Wilson, shared his opinion about Diablo V, announced during BlizzCon 2026.
"It seemed to me that the Diablo series had moved away from the type of games I love, but when I saw the announcement of Diablo 5, I felt hopeful. It wasn't just the words they said, but also what they deliberately showed," Wilson stated.
Wilson pointed out that the Diablo 5 logo strongly resembles the first and second installments of the series, and the inventory concept shown during the presentation also harkens back to the early games of the franchise. According to Wilson, all of this is a signal of the developers' desire to return to their roots.
The industry veteran also believes that Diablo 5 should have a traditional system in which increasingly stronger monsters appear in the world, and you can choose how quickly to progress through the game. Incidentally, the developers have already mentioned that they will change their approach to level scaling.
Earlier, the developers showed the first concept art, the three classes that will definitely be available at launch, and also revealed some details about the new game. The game's release is planned for spring 2029.
