The original lollipop chainsaw turned 14 years old and sales of the repop remaster have exceeded 400000 copies

Dragami Games studio and its head Yoshimi Yasuda are marking a small-but-notable milestone for the Lollipop Chainsaw franchise. It’s been 14 years since the original, madcap action game about a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader hit North America on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

FYI, worldwide sales of the remaster Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP have officially surpassed 400,000 copies. Not blockbuster territory, but for a niche title coming from a relatively compact team, that’s a respectable outcome — and a sign that the fanbase stayed loud and engaged.

The developers publicly thanked fans around the globe; longtime devotion to the cult classic by Goichi Suda (Suda51) and James Gunn played a big role in getting the franchise back into circulation. Fans kept the spark alive, you could say (esp. those who never stopped talking about it).

Also worth noting: Dragami Games, together with Nada Holdings, has already moved into production on a full sequel and an animated adaptation of the universe. Surprising? Maybe — but momentum is clearly building.
