The unofficial PC port of the GoldenEye 007 remaster has been released

January 2026 saw whispers about an unofficial PC port of the shelved GoldenEye 007 remaster. Now those whispers have a file to show for themselves: a group of enthusiasts finished the work and released it to the public.

Quick context for anyone out of the loop: back in 2008 there was a plan to update the N64 original for the X360 (XBLA was the intended outlet). The project was pulled before it ever reached players, leaving prototypes and lore for fans to chase rather than a retail release.

The released build — GoldenEye 007 — PC Recompilation — runs at a smooth 60 fps. The team recompiled parts of the game and addressed GPU sync problems that popped up in earlier X360 builds, so frame pacing should feel steadier. Multiplayer works over the internet; you can host or join matches via LAN, Hamachi, playit.gg, or public servers. Controller input is supported too (yes, plug one in and go).

Press ESC in-game to open a settings menu where you can change resolution, toggle a framerate cap, switch fullscreen on/off, and configure online options. There are also post-effects you can tweak — brightness, contrast, saturation, and vignetting — if you want to fiddle with the look.

Like most recompilations, this package doesn’t include the original game files: you’ll need an X360 XBLA ROM to actually run it. That’s the awkward part, since the remaster never got a wide public release.
