"Ben Solo is dead — period!" Disney masterfully axed a ready-to-go Star Wars project
In the world of Star Wars, there's been another plot twist — this time not on screen, but in the boardrooms of Disney. Director Steven Soderbergh recently shared a story in an interview that will make fans of Ben Solo (aka Kylo Ren) reach for their lightsabers: the studio didn't even bother to delve into the details of a potential "Hunt for Ben Solo" film.
Adam Driver, who played Ben Solo in the sequel trilogy, spent two years meticulously working on a script for a solo film about his character. And not just that — he managed to attract Steven Soderbergh, the director of the "Ocean's" films, to the project. But to their surprise, Disney executives greeted them with a phrase worthy of the worst bureaucratic nightmares: "We believe Ben Solo cannot be alive."
I thought the conversation would be purely practical: where would they go, how much would it cost? And I had a very good answer for that. But it never even got to that point. It's insane. We are all very disappointed.
Soderbergh noted that Adam Driver is particularly upset — two years of work essentially went into the trash. Apparently, Disney decided that Ben Solo's story ended not on screen, but in their meeting room.
