Search for the Needle is a Roblox digging game where players race to uncover a needle by clearing haystacks. Progression includes permanent classes that alter how efficiently you farm: some favor manual, slow play while others reward investment in tools and upgrades. There are currently 10 classes; you cannot pick one directly — classes are awarded by spinning a wheel for 40 Gems per spin.
All classes and drop chances
- S — The Chosen One (0.1%)
- S — Ultimate Farmer (0.1%)
- A — Drone Specialist (1%)
- A — Demolitionist (7%)
- A — Forkmaster (9%)
- B — Hoover (0.5%)
- B — Pack Mule (25%)
- B — Hay Merchant (14%)
- C — Prospector (3.9%)
- D — Starter (40%)
Tip: Classes that match your toolset are more effective than their tier suggests. A player with Forkmaster and upgraded forks farms faster than a player with Hay Merchant without upgrades.
S-tier: the best in the game
The Chosen One (0.1%)
This class bundles bonuses across the board: +25% Cash from selling hay, −25% upgrade costs, +25% to pet effectiveness, plus an aura that grants nearby teammates +10% to sell value. It improves every phase of a run simultaneously.
Ultimate Farmer (0.1%)
Ultimate Farmer grants the advantages of the specialized classes and layers on the Golden Harvest mechanic — an intermittent, run-based resource boost. Forks, dynamite, and automation all gain benefits, making this a do-it-all option for players who want a single top-tier class.
A-tier: strong specialists
- Drone Specialist — 1% — Permanent drone without purchase, +30% speed, +40% capacity, periodic swarm of 3 drones. For whom: Automation and long sessions.
- Demolitionist — 7% — +20% dynamite blast radius, 10% chance to split explosion into 3 charges. For whom: Mass clearing with dynamite.
- Forkmaster — 9% — +25% hay per fork swing, −25% cost to upgrade forks. For whom: Players with upgraded forks.
Forkmaster is the most attainable A-tier pick for early fork-focused farming. Demolitionist is a practical specialized choice if dynamite is part of your loadout.
B-tier: reliable but limited
- Hoover — 0.5% — Reduces vacuum overheating, prolongs operation. Problem: Cooldown is manageable anyway — upgrade noticeable but not revolutionary.
- Pack Mule — 25% — +50% inventory capacity. Problem: Value drops when dynamite and forks become main methods.
- Hay Merchant — 14% — +20% Cash from selling hay. Problem: Money stops being an issue mid-game.
Pack Mule is straightforward and useful early on; its 25% drop rate makes it a reasonable upgrade to aim for after Starter.
C-tier: situational
Prospector (3.9%)
Prospector increases the chance to turn hay into diamonds by +50% and converts collected hay into diamonds. Because diamonds are a secondary resource and this class does not speed up clearing, its value is limited to targeted diamond farming runs.
D-tier: skip
Starter (40%)
The default class with no bonuses. Fine for learning the mechanics, but getting Starter from a spin yields no benefit — it is the least desirable outcome. With a 40% chance, Starter is the most common spin result; replace it as soon as you can.
Warning: 40% Starter chance means almost every other spin is a dud. Budget your Gems with this in mind.
How to unlock classes
In the lobby, open Classes shop → Spin Class. Each spin costs 40 Gems, and the class is assigned randomly according to drop chances. After obtaining a class, you can change it in the menu for free.
Free Gems:
- Reward from the Garage Games group — 25 Gems
- Daily Rewards: 10 Gems on the first day, 500 Gems on the eighth day
- Free-to-play accumulation is realistic, but chasing the rarest classes requires patience
How much does Ultimate Farmer cost?
At a 0.1% drop rate, the expected number of spins to hit Ultimate Farmer is 1,000. With spins priced at 40 Gems each, the statistical average cost is 40,000 Gems. Spins are independent; there is no pity counter. After 1,000 spins the chance to have obtained Ultimate Farmer at least once is roughly 63.2%. You could get it early or wait many more spins — outcomes vary widely.
By contrast, Starter’s 40% drop rate implies an average of about 2.5 spins, roughly 100 Gems. The difference between the easiest and rarest classes is therefore very large.
Is it worth spending Gems on spins?
Yes, but with discipline. Use spins to secure a class that complements your primary tools:
- Pack Mule and Hay Merchant — simple improvements over Starter and attainable with modest spending
- Forkmaster and Demolitionist — strong matches for fork- or dynamite-centered builds; reasonable early targets
- The Chosen One and Ultimate Farmer — long-term rarities. Don’t exhaust your balance chasing them; they’re most likely to arrive gradually via Daily Rewards
Stats and chances may change with updates — check the in-game class menu before a mass spinning session.
