Crimson Desert Voice Actors Discuss Their Characters and the Challenges of Their Work

In a new video for Crimson Desert, the performers of the main roles shared how they see their characters and what was most difficult about working on them. The video features Alec Newman, who voices the protagonist Cliff, Rebecca Hanssen — the voice of Demyana — and Stuart Scudamore, who plays Ungka.
Crimson Desert is an adventure action game with RPG elements. The developers invite players to immerse themselves in an open world with an emphasis on preparation and survival, without enemy scaling and traditional RPG mechanics. The events unfold in a fantasy world on the continent of Pywel. The main character was the leader of the Gray Griffins mercenary band until they were nearly wiped out by their rivals, the Black Bears. He intends to gather the remnants of his team and take revenge.
Newman was thrilled with the work. He was given a chance to play the game a bit to better understand Cliff. At first, the character seemed to the actor as somewhat taciturn and even closed-off. However, in scenes where he interacts with friends and comrades, the protagonist reveals a different side. He is a very loyal and devoted person, albeit a bit grim.
Hanssen saw Demyana as a brave warrior who is not afraid to speak her mind, get into an argument, or enter a battle. The actress herself is far from such unwaveringness and tries to avoid conflicts, so it was challenging but enjoyable for her to play this role.
Scudamore found it technically difficult. After all, Ungka is a large orc, and his voice matches: low and raspy. Sometimes he even reacts to events with sounds: grunts, growls, or snorts. But despite his threatening appearance, the character turned out to be very intellectual and full of worldly wisdom. He is ready to support his friends with words and help with deeds. Especially if the cause is just.
