Debates over who belongs in Geralt of Rivia’s heart rarely end conclusively, but a remark from the actor who voices the Witcher can change how you read his relationships. At gamescom 2026, Doug Cockle told PC Gamer journalist Joshua Wolens that, in his view, it’s not Yennefer or Triss but the bard Dandelion who might be Geralt’s true "other half" — though Cockle stressed the connection is not romantic (can be considered).
I would say yes, but in a very platonic sense.
Cockle was careful to reject any crude shorthand for the relationship — he said he didn’t want to reduce it to the phrase "bros before hoes," calling that phrase "terrible." Still, he argued there is a recurring pattern in Geralt’s behavior: the Witcher repeatedly prioritizes Dandelion’s safety over other companions.
I think there's something to it in Geralt and Dandelion’s relationship, you know. Whenever Dandelion gets into trouble, Geralt drops everything and rushes to save him.
Cockle pointed to early moments in The Witcher 3 as examples, such as the first-act main quest "A Poet in Distress," where Geralt tracks Dandelion’s kidnappers, confronts a Witch Hunter and frees the bard from a halfling hut where he is tied to a chair. Another moment that highlights the choice to prioritize the bard is the quest "The Treasure of the Corvo Bianco," in which the player can opt to ignore Triss’s cries while she’s being tortured in order to secure information about Dandelion’s location — a decision that can be read as prioritizing the bard, though there are other reasons a player might make that choice and Triss is capable of defending herself.
John Schwab, who voices Dandelion, quickly added a qualification: Geralt’s willingness to rescue his friend doesn’t mean he enjoys doing it.
That doesn’t mean Geralt’s like, “Yay, I’m saving Dandelion again!”
Cockle agreed, offering the more weary take: Yes, it’s more like, “Oh great, he’s in trouble again.” Imagine this phrase with a fair amount of weary irritation in the voice — and the picture of the two characters’ relationship becomes noticeably clearer.
