Patch 1.0.4 for Gothic 1 Remake released with extensive rebalancing and hundreds of fixes

The studio Alkimia Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic have released a major update 1.0.4 for the role-playing game Gothic 1 Remake. The patch targets a slate of critical bug fixes, performance work on PC and consoles, and a substantial rebalance of equipment and the in-game economy — but it also opened new lines of argument among the player base.

On the tech side, the devs closed multiple crash vectors and odd behaviors. Fixed: a crossbow reload skip when quick-switching, XP gains that inflated when finishing off downed enemies with magic, and duplicated character stats after dragging rings in the inventory. Other quirks addressed include infinite teleporting Xardas, heroes getting stuck inside the Sleeper’s dreams, torch-related ladder falls, and wrong trophy unlocks for Overachiever and MapSniffer on PS5. Story progression got attention too — dialogue locks with Gomez, Milten, and Torus were unjammed, blacksmith Stone and several key NPCs had logic tweaks, and the ice shadow beast now reliably spawns for the bestiary quest. Small but annoying things were touched: queen pheromones removed from the Old Mine secret passage and escort-fail conditions fixed when switching camps.

Audio and visuals weren’t ignored. The patch ups the number of audio channels for a denser soundscape, refines facial expressions and gestures for NPCs, and adds a distinct line when lockpicking fails (so the game now distinguishes “no lockpick” vs “need key”). Spell flight physics — fireball arcs, for example — received polish, and pathing for colony inhabitants was smoothed out. Expect some UI/UX tweaks in these areas as well.

The most debated pillar of the update: item and armor rebalance. Mantles for Fire, Water, and Darkness casters now trade off elemental defense for more physical protection and bigger MP pools. Meanwhile, high-tier armor upgrades for guards, mercs, and templars jumped in price. The team also moved several high-value scrolls and potions around the map; strength and agility potions were shifted into harder-to-reach spots, changing early-game routes and loot priorities.

And yes, the patch unleashed complaints. Reports on Steam range from a measurable fps drop (players citing ~5–10 fps loss) to audio disappearing entirely and launch crashes. On top of that, a fresh bug popped up: equipping a full set of rings and amulets can stop correctly summing bonuses to the hero’s stats — not ideal for gear-focused builds.

According to Alkimia Interactive, the build number is CL 171261 (check in Settings). The devs say they’re still triaging reports and ask players to send remaining issues through the official bug report system.
