According to insiders, Lucasfilm has apparently cut ties with Aspyr, the studio that handled several Star Wars re-releases. The split is said to have followed a messy rollout of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and ongoing problems with the KOTOR remake. A source from The Star Wars Garrison claims the decision came after a streak of setbacks: the KOTOR remake was moved off Aspyr and onto Saber Interactive, while the Battlefront Classic Collection launched with major technical woes — pervasive bugs, flaky servers, and several promised features that never arrived.
Meanwhile, the remake is still alive! Saber top manager hinted at the release date of the updated KOTOR — a separate signal that the project, now under Saber, is not dead in the water (Saber mgr dropping hints, if you will).
Rumors also claim Lucasfilm took a hit of approx. USD 40M because of these efforts. If that figure holds up, it would help explain why Lucasfilm might be reluctant to keep working with Aspyr. Other whispers suggest Aspyr had been prepping a re-release of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and fresh remasters in the Jedi Knight line; those efforts are reportedly in limbo.
No official statement has come from Lucasfilm or Aspyr, so treat the whole story as unverified for now. That said, Aspyr hasn’t announced any new Star Wars projects in about a year, which unsurprisingly keeps the rumor mill spinning.
