The early access release date for the horror shooter Milo on Steam is set for October 29, 2026, and the game demo has been disabled
Spencer, lead dev at the indie outfit rat cream games, and publisher Yarrawah Interactive set an early access date for Milo on Steam: October 29, 2026. At the same time the free demo was pulled from the Valve store — no longer available.
Why remove it? The short version: no bandwidth. Spencer says the team can’t maintain a separate demo build while preparing the release. Months of mechanical reworks and optimization passes left the old demo misleading; it simply doesn’t match the live project anymore.
This project has been messy for a while. Five years in the making, with recurring hiccups and heavy criticism. In fall 2025 the demo showed up at Steam Next Fest and flopped by several measures — poor perf, awkward gameplay, and an average session length of ~11 min. Some players were blunt: they called it a lazy rip of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 zombie mode, even tossing around the idea that parts felt auto-generated (ChatGPT mentioned in reviews).
Those reactions led to hard choices. The original plan (Sept 2025 launch) got pushed into 2026, and local split‑screen co-op was axed. Then Yarrawah Interactive stepped in as publisher/co‑dev to help salvage the title. Their work included porting to the latest Unreal Engine, refreshing weapon/enemy models, and tightening netcode.
Gameplay notes (quick, human-friendly): survival in grim trenches; waves of cultists; you control rats that eat corpses; corpses can explode for short buffs. Weapons lean WWII-era; there’s an auto gun nicknamed the Cream Machine (it has special bonuses). Visit the arcade hall Traang to play a basketball mini‑game and earn tickets for gear upgrades.
Launch features: online co-op for up to 4 ppl, 3 distinct survivor classes, and 12+ firearm types.
System reqs (human abbreviations used):
- Minimum: 720p @ 30 fps — Intel i5‑12400F CPU, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1660 GPU.
- Recommended: 1080p play — NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU for smoother performance.
No demo means fewer chances to test hands-on before buying. For some, that feels risky; for the devs, it was apparently necessary to avoid shipping a demo that misrepresents their current build.
