Players of Marvel's Wolverine have reported that some releases of the game contain altered content relating to Mystique's relationship and marriage to a character called Tiger. Screenshots comparing the censored and original material were shared on social media and Reddit.
On Twitter, users pointed out that the couple's wedding photo in a framed item was completely blurred; the object can still be picked up and inspected in-game, but the image itself is missing. Another post showed a screenshot of an in-game letter whose text had also been blurred to the point of being unreadable.
The authors of the posts say the screenshots come from the Middle Eastern version of Marvel's Wolverine. While there is no definitive on-screen proof of the region, one Reddit clip included in the thread reportedly cuts off the dialogue each time the word "wife" is used about Mystique; in the subtitles that word is replaced with asterisks.
Observers note this follows a familiar pattern for how Sony and other media distributors handle content in the Middle East: muting or removing specific words from audio or subtitles is a common practice in the region’s film and TV releases. Such edits frequently target material touching on religion (including mentions of the word "God") or depictions of same-sex relationships, which are banned in many countries there. The same kind of restrictions also apply in Russia; however, because official game sales in Russia are not conducted, players there reportedly have access to the full version.

The reports also call attention to Insomniac Games and Sony’s collaboration with Sweet Baby Inc., a consultancy focused on character diversity that advises developers on representing a range of players. Supporters of the censorship edits argue that Mystique and Tiger’s relationship aligns with canonical material from the comics.
Marvel's Wolverine is available on PS5; it has recorded decent sales in its opening weeks but continues to face waves of criticism targeting both its gameplay and its story.
