Unity 7 engine announced release in the first quarter of 2027

During the Unite Seoul conference, Unity Technologies unveiled the next version of its engine — Unity 7. Beta testing starts in December 2026, with a full release penciled in for Q1 2027.

Developers describe Unity 7 as a “direct continuation of the Unity 6 architecture.” They say moving to the new build shouldn’t force rebuilds; existing pipelines and CI can be migrated without tearing projects apart, according to Adam Smith, Senior VP of Products at Unity.

Under the hood, a refreshed CoreCLR core is meant to improve performance. Graphics work includes new rendering tools — Surface Cache GI for real-time global illumination is one concrete example. The platform’s integration model is shifting too: fewer hard editor dependencies, more runtime hooks and extension points, and changes to how monetization flows are handled.

A public API will let artists, producers, and devs (PMs and QA included) inspect and iterate on assets from their usual apps without needing full editor access. There’s also a free MCP for hooking up AI agents that can assist with code generation.

AI features form a major part of the roadmap, but Unity stresses opt-in usage. “Unity 7 is built for a future where humans and AI agents can work together. But the choice always remains with the team, not the platform.”
