"We want to reach as many fans as possible" — Stellar Blade: Blood Rain creators hint at a multiplatform release
The Summer Game Fest 2026 reveal for the Stellar Blade follow-up, Blood Rain, sparked a lot of online noise. The trailer — with the new protagonist Ivy front and center — looked slick, but the big practical question lingers: which hardware will get the game? That’s not idle curiosity; the first Stellar Blade (2024) was a Sony-timed PS5 exclusive, with a PC build arriving a year later.
When the dust settled, the PC version outsold the PS5 release by roughly tenfold — a wide gap. Not an encyclopedic take, just an observation: different platforms bring different audiences and sales patterns (i.e., PC audiences can shift totals significantly).
In a recent IGN talk, Shift Up’s studio head and director Kim Hyun Tae spoke about how they’re approaching development and where they’ll publish. The headline change is that Shift Up will self-publish Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, stepping away from Sony’s publishing umbrella. That move opens the door to launching on several platforms at once. The trailer even notes that all gameplay footage was captured on PC, so a PC release is at least on the table.
The most important statement from the fresh interview is as follows:
We want to reach as many fans as possible.
Read that line as a clear nudge toward a simultaneous multiplatform rollout, though it’s not a binding commitment. They haven’t listed specific platforms, and that omission leaves room for exclusions — e.g., the underpowered Switch 2 or Xbox Series S might be skipped. If you ask me, it’s sensible business thinking; whether it becomes a full cross-platform push remains to be seen.
